Wild Roots Nature School is a nature-based homeschool where children learn and discover the wonders of nature through child led play.
When children are given the opportunity to learn in a natural outdoor environment, it nurtures and fosters the emotional and social well being of the child. Through outdoor exploration and play, children connect with ones self and find calmness in nature. They learn to self regulate their emotions and learn essential skills for their emotional development. These learned social and emotional skills plant the seeds early in their childhood development to grow into a balanced, happy individual.

Our seasonal, play-based emergent curriculum is rooted in curiosity, adventure, and connection to the natural world. Guided by children’s interests, I observe, listen, and gently support learning as it unfolds through play and exploration.
Rather than following a set lesson plan, nature becomes the classroom. Children learn by digging in the soil, splashing in puddles, watching the seasons change, and building with natural materials. This child-led approach supports social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth in a way that feels authentic, joyful, and deeply connected to nature 🌿

Wild Roots is dedicated to teaching the next generation the importance of caring for the environment. We nurture young stewards of the Earth by emphasizing sustainability, conservation, and our shared responsibility to care for our planet.

In the garden, children press tiny seeds into the soil, water growing plants, and practice patience as they wait for months until harvest time finally arrives. They experience the joy of picking homegrown, organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers while learning where food comes from and the life cycle of a plant. Children also help care for the backyard chickens by collecting eggs, learning how chicks grow into hens, the difference of a hen and a rooster and the incubation period of a egg.
. Through these real life experiences, children discover the value of patience, responsibility, and care for all living things, while nurturing deep connection to the land and the natural world.

Hi, I’m Jenny, the founder and teacher at Wild Roots Nature School. I have a degree in Sociology, 18 years of experience working with children, and I’m a trained and certified Forest School Leader. I’m also a mom of two.
I believe children learn best when they have time to be outside, to move their bodies, get their hands dirty, and follow their curiosity. At Wild Roots, our days follow the rhythms of the seasons and spent exploring, gardening, playing, and learning together in nature.
When I’m not teaching, I’m usually outside with my family, tending our garden, or caring for our chickens. Creating a space where children can grow with confidence, connection, and respect for the natural world is work I truly love.
